18-wheeler fire closes section of J.K. Powell

Whiteville firefighters and public works employees were on scene to scoop sawdust off J.K. Powell Boulevard after the truck carrying it caught on fire Tuesday afternoon. Staff photo by Thomas Sherrill

No one was injured after a rear-axle fire that spread into the truck bed of an 18-wheeler carrying sawdust caused traffic to be halted in both directions mid-Tuesday afternoon in Whiteville.
