Kim Smith, right, director of Columbus County Health Department, recently presented a resolution to Franklin Boone, who served on the county board of health for 30 years. Following Boone’s retirement from the board in 2020, the Columbus County Board of Commissioners appointed his daughter, Frankye Boone-Newkirk, left, to replace him. “Mr. Boone’s commitment to public health was demonstrated in numerous ways, including the support in the creation of the Rules of Columbus County Intensive Livestock Operations, the support and establishing of the In-House Dental Clinic and Toothmobile, and supporting the Smoking Ban in County buildings,” according to the resolution adopted by the board of health.
