The Columbus Chamber of Commerce and Tourism has set its annual Shuck ‘n’ Shag oyster roast for Thursday, Nov. 18, from 5:30–9:30 p.m. on Vineland Station’s Batten Pavilion in downtown Whiteville. Tickets are $40.
Shuck ‘n’ Shag, the chamber’s primary fundraiser, has sold out in past years.
“This is the twelfth year we have put this event together,” said Jennifer Holcomb, chamber president. After the chamber had to cancel last year’s Shuck ‘n’ Shag, she said chamber leaders are confident that this will be a record-setting year.
“People seem to love the fall event when oyster season begins. And for those who do not like roasted oysters, we have chili and Brunswick stew. This is the ideal time of year for having fresh oysters, and when isn’t it a perfect time to dance, or ‘shag,’ as we call it in the South?”
Those attending will have a chance to win prizes donated by chamber businesses at the cost of $5 per raffle ticket or $20 for five tickets. Prizes are an 18” strand of freshwater pearls from Collier’s Jewelers, a Typhoon AR-12 tactical shotgun from Murf’s Pawn, a Camp Chef three-burner flat-top grill from Country Boy Outfitters, a Galaxy Tablet from CopyPro and a 40” Full HD Roku Smart TV from Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation.
