Columbus adds few COVID-19 cases [free read]


The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services added just nine COVID-19 cases in Columbus County between Monday and Wednesday, which was the most recent data as of presstime. The total is now 10,267. 

The death count remained at 230, according to NCDHHS.

NCDHHS data shows a cluster (several cases in non-congregate living settings) at East Columbus High School with two staff and three student cases. The latest outbreak (several cases in congregate living settings) at Liberty Commons remains stable at a total of 24 cases and one death.

In addition, the North Carolina Public Safety reported seven active cases (up from zero last week) and 152 recoveries at Columbus Correctional Institution, along with two active cases (same as last week) and 404 recoveries at Tabor Correctional Institution.

Approximately 45% — or 88 more residents than Monday — have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, according to NCDHHS. Approximately 42% are fully vaccinated.
