Columbus reports additional COVID-19 death; 47 new cases


Columbus County has seen its 53rd COVID-19 death. The person died Monday while hospitalized, the Columbus County Health Department announced. No additional information was provided.

The department also reported 47 new cases of COVID-19. One case was confirmed Monday, four on Sunday, nine on Saturday, eight on Friday and 25 on Thursday following an earlier update that day.

The county’s total of 1,271 cases includes the 53 deaths and at least 967 recoveries.

“There are currently three Columbus County residents that are hospitalized due to COVID-19,” the health department said Monday.
