County has more access to ‘five-star’ child care than most of N.C.

Columbus County ranks 27th out of 100 counties across the state in terms of its percentage of infants and toddlers enrolled in five-star licensed care facilities as defined by state regulators.

Columbus County outperforms nearly three-quarters of counties statewide in offering “five-star” child care up to the developmentally crucial age of 3 years, according to the 2021–2022 North Carolina Infant-Toddler Child Care Landscape Study.

And, unlike many counties, Columbus County still has the same number of child care facilities open as it did
