Crews from the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality have begun to spray herbicides around two Cherry Grove ponds, launching a multi-year process to eradicate the invasive Giant Salvinia weed from local waterways.
The noxious aquatic weed has covered most of the estimated 300 acres of Buffkin and Richardson ponds.
