July 4 was no Independence Day for a Fair Bluff man who allegedly fled from police.

Warrants show that Timothy Tyrone Riggins, 31, of 29 Lowery Lane, was arrested by Patrolman G. Gorder after a brief chase July 4. Riggins was held under a secured bond.

The warrants shows that Corder was en route to a call when he spotted Riggins driving at a high rate of speed, and initiated a traffic stop. Riggins allegedly attempted to flee, but was caught a short time later. He was charged with driving while impaired, possession of marijuana, failure to stop for a stop sign, fleeing to elude arrest and driving while license revoked. Riggins was held under a $8,500 secured bond.

Riggins was arrested by Fair Bluff Sgt. K.H. Grice earlier this year after officers found marijuana wrappers, 2.7 grams of marijuana, 1.1 grams of cocaine, and a loaded, chambered .40 caliber Taurus handgun in a car Riggins was driving. A young child was also in the vehicle “in close proximity” to the weapon. He was jailed then on a variety of drug charges and misdemeanor child abuse.
