A Leland woman is recovering after sustaining a broken bone when her granddaughter’s boyfriend shoved her July 21.

The sheriff’s office reported that Lillian Nelson, 61, told deputies she took her granddaughter to visit Timothy Andrew Matthew Sutherland, 21, at his residence at 2566 Manly Smith Road, Nakina.

While at the residence, Sutherland allegedly pushed Nelson into a pole on the porch, causing her to then fall to the ground, breaking a bone.

Sutherland was charged with assault inflicting serious bodily injury.  He was given a $3,500 secured bond, according to jail records.
