Man charged with burning furniture

An unexplained dispute led a Tabor City man to burn a woman’s furniture June 5.

Covell Jones, 56, of 406 Anderson St., was charged with burning personal property and second degree trespassing, and held under a $50,000 secured bond, according to arrest reports.

Jones is alleged to have burned furniture belonging to Ashlee Hardwick, 24, as she was cleaning out a residence at 2681 Swamp Fox Hwy. East. Hardwick had left some of the furniture outside the residence when Jones allegedly set the fire.

The motive for the alleged arson was not reported. Jones is acquainted with Hardwick’s father.
