A wild chase through Chadbourn June 10 ended with two damaged vehicles and a Garner man in jail.
Chief Anthony Spivey of the Chadbourn Police said Vincent Lucian Guglielmo, 72, was returning from a casino trip to Myrtle Beach with two female companions when they drove through the town around 9 p.m. A dispute developed between Guglielmo and one of the women, Spivey said.
“It was serious enough the female jumped out of the car,” Spivey said.
Guglielmo is alleged to have chased the woman with his automobile, driving over the curb and across lawns in downtown Chadbourn. The woman ran behind Dyson’s Diner, Spivey said, and back onto Brown Street, where she stopped a motorist on the street.
“He allowed her into the car and began dialing 911,” Spivey said. “He could see police vehicles heading toward him while he was on the phone.”
Guglielmo then allegedly rammed the good Samaritan’s vehicle, Spivey said. The suspect exited his own car, pried open the door of the other car, and began beating the driver.
Officers M. Morales and J.F. Norris managed to detain Guglielmo and take him into custody. Officers found cocaine and a large quantity of cash in the automobile.
“The officers were johnny-on-the-spot,” Spivey said. “I really think this would have been a whole lot worse had they not gotten there when they did.”
Guglielmo was charged with assault on a female, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of cocaine, and maintaining a vehicle for drug activities. He was held under $5,000 secured bond.
