BREAKING–A Columbus County Sheriff’s Deputy happened to be in the right place at the right time Monday to prevent a potentially dangerous crash involving an 18-wheeler.
The incident is still under investigation, but the deputy reportedly spotted a tractor-trailer driving erratically on U.S. 701 south of the New Hope community shortly before noon. The vehicle was heading south at 30 to 35 miles per hour. The deputy called for assistance after the truck driver refused to stop. The rig was eventually pulled partially off the road a few miles later.
State troopers were responding to other calls at the time and could not assist.
No arrests were immediately reported, but Tabor City Rescue was called to transport the driver of the tractor-trailer.
