A classic race car that was stolen in its trailer June 20 has been recovered.
Sheriff Lewis Hatcher said Jeffrey Lee Allen contacted law enforcement after discovering the theft of his 1968 Camaro, along with its carry trailer, fuel and other items. The items were taken from Allen’s home near Chadbourn.
Allen posted photographs of the car and trailer on social media, and after receiving a tip online, contacted the sheriff’s office. Chadbourn police were called in after information indicated the car was in the town’s jurisdiction, but further investigation led officers to Robeson County, Hatcher said.
Around 1:40 a.m. June 21, Hatcher said, officer found the car and trailer at a home in Red Springs. Robeson deputies assisted in the recovery of the property, which was returned to Allen.
“I would like to thank Sheriff Sealey and Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, as well as Chief Spivey and Chadbourn Police Department for their assistance during this investigation,” Hatcher said.
Charges are pending in the case, Hatcher said.
