Two nailed on felony drug, gun charges

Chadbourn Police confiscated a firearm and drugs in a major bust Sunday.

Lamorris Cornelius Chestnut, 42, of 203 Jackson St., Chadbourn, was held under $50,000 secured bond on charges of trafficking in opiates, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver heroin and opiates, resisting a public officer and possession of a firearm by a felon. His address was listed as 203 Jackson St., Chadbourn.

James Miller Sr., 32, was charged with trafficking in opiates, possession of cocaine, carrying a concealed weapon, and maintaining a vehicle for drug activities and was held under a $25,000 bond.
Chief Anthony Spivey said Cpl. T. Lovett was on patrol near Third and Wilkes Street when he spotted a vehicle with a revoked tag.

After stopping the vehicle, Spivey said, Lovett reported seeing a bag thrown from the passenger side window. The officer discovered a Taurus handgun and a quantity of drugs in the bag.

Miller and Chestnutt, who was a passenger in the vehicle, denied ownership of the contraband.
