A call for assistance on an unrelated matter led Whiteville Police to a felon and several firearms Wednesday.
Terry McMillian, 33, was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and held under $25,000 secured bond. He listed his address as 717 W. Virgil Street.
Major Alan May said Sgt. Aaron Herring and Officers P. Carrano and M. Kellihan were assisting a property owner on a “civil standby” call around 7:40 a.m. on West Virgil Street when they noticed McMillian asleep in a Chevrolet Avalanche on the property.
When the officers approached the vehicle, May said, they saw a firearm on the front seat beside the suspect. Officers reported that the man made “several stretching motions” that appeared to be an attempt to hide the weapon. When officers ordered him to stop, the McMillian immediately complied.
Inside the vehicle, officers found a .380 Hi-Point handgun, a High Standard .45, a Marlin .22 rifle, magazines and ammunition for each of the weapons.
The investigation is continuing.
