According to East Columbus High School Athletic Director Bobby Godwin, East Columbus has paused all basketball activities for junior varsity and varsity men’s and varsity women’s teams due to NCHSAA protocols for dealing with positive COVID-19 cases and contact tracing.
This affects upcoming non-conference games at Whiteville (Jan. 12), at East Bladen (Jan. 15), West Columbus (Jan. 19) and a conference contest with St. Pauls (Jan. 22). Godwin also said it was “unlikely” the non-conference games would be rescheduled.
The pause in basketball does not affect East Columbus’ first round volleyball match scheduled for Tuesday against Lakewood.
Bladen County Schools announced earlier today (Monday) that East Bladen’s women’s basketball team would pause activities until Jan. 22 due to COVID-19 protocols.
Later on Monday, Bladen County Schools announced West Bladen’s men’s basketball team had paused all activities due to a dozen individuals associated with the team having close contact with a COVID-19 positive individual. Games originally scheduled that will not be played during the quarantine period are West Columbus scheduled for January 12, East Bladen scheduled for January 19, and Fairmont scheduled for January 22. The West Columbus and East Bladen games are considered non-conference.
