Parent Academy is a new initiative at East Columbus High School. The idea, said Assistant Principal Chica Threadgill, is to provide engaging, parent-focused topics that will aid parents in navigating issues and topics relevant to their students.
“It’s an idea that seems to work well in other counties in North Carolina, and I wanted to bring it to our school,” Threadgill said. “We’ll have a Financial Aid workshop on January 8 to help parents and students complete FAFSA applications. Southeastern Community College has partnered with us for this installment.”
Parents should register in advance for the Jan. 8 FAFSA program. The school’s phone number is 646-4094.
“On Feb. 18, we’ll have Mr. Travis Corpening present on Academic Engagement,” said Threadgill. Registration is not necessary for that presentation.
BB&T Financial Wellness Consultant Mila Baker spoke to community members and parents about preparing a budget for the first installment of Parent Academy held last month.
