Posted on: 06.10.2018 at 07:00 a.m.

The faculty and staff of East Columbus High School recognized four school veterans Wednesday for their service to the school. The new retirees are history teacher Crystal Frink, business teacher Mae Gresham, English and lead teacher Linda Mercado and school secretary Ellen Jacobs. Frink spent her entire teaching career at ECHS, beginning as a student teacher when the school opened 26 years ago. Gresham entered education after 26 years at DuPont. She worked at Hallsboro-Artesia Elementary, Hallsboro Middle and Boys and Girls Homes schools prior to her five years at ECHS. Mercado, with 31 years of teaching experience, worked at New Hanover and Nakina high schools before joining the original ECHS staff in 1992. Jacobs, with 37 years of education work, has also been with ECHS since its beginning. Frink and Mercado were also honored by the seven current ECHS faculty members who were students of theirs when they attended the school.
