East Columbus High School senior Tiara Allen was the winner of this year’s Friends of Rube McCray Memorial Library scholarship. A reception honoring Allen was held at the library recently, attended by library board members,  friends and family.

Allen has been an exceptional scholar during her high school experience, earning a 4.3 weighted GPA and 4.6 unweighted GPA. She also earned a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) degree while carrying a full load of high school classes. She is a member of Beta and HOSA organizations at ECHS and will pursue a nursing degree at UNC-G in the fall. She says her goal is to become a medical doctor.

Allen is the daughter of Marshall Allen, who she says has been her biggest supporter and role model and is the granddaughter of Dexter Graham and Margaret Johnson. She has an older brother, Marshall Allen, Jr.

“Tiara is focused and knows what she wants,” said Patricia Medlin, chairman of the scholarship committee. “She has already done some smart planning for her career.” ECHS guidance counselor, Sammy Worley said, “It has been a pleasure working with Tiara.”
