UPDATE: Schools, SCC announce closings

Whiteville City Schools Superintendent Kenny Garland made the following announcement at 11:17 today (Wednesday):
Due to the Potential Impact of Hurricane Michael, the Whiteville City Schools will be closed for students and staff on Thursday, October 11, 2018.  Also, the Whiteville City Schools will be on a two (2) hour delay for students on Friday, October 12, 2018.
The Whiteville City Schools Administrative Team will monitor the conditions and another update will be provided at 5 PM on Thursday evening. Please take the necessary precautions to remain safe during this weather event.
Columbus County Schools Interim Superintendent Jonathan Williams announced the following before noon:
Columbus County Schools will be CLOSED for students and staff Thursday, Oct. 11. School will resume at 10 a.m. Friday.
Southeastern Community College, including the Child Development Center, will be closed Thursday, Oct. 11.
