The Reuben Brown House Preservation Society in collaboration with the N.C. Humanities Council and Southeastern Community College (SCC) will host an evening with Jaki Shelton Green, N.C. Poet Laureate Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium at SCC. Everyone is invited to attend. Admission is free with a reception and book signing by the author to follow.
Jaki Shelton Green is the first African American and third woman to be appointed as the N.C. Poet Laureate. Gov. Roy Cooper appointed Green in 2018 and stated, “Jaki Shelton Green brings a deep appreciation of our state’s diverse communities to her role as an ambassador of North Carolina literature. Jaki’s appointment is a wonderful new chapter in North Carolina’s rich literary history.”
