Marie Faulk, local coordinator for Operation Christmas Child, announced that National Collection Week is Nov. 16-22.
Cherry Grove Baptist Church will serve as the only drop-off location in Columbus County for Operation Christmas Child this year.
The annual drive by the evangelistic and relief organization Samaritan’s Purse gathers shoeboxes packed with gift items for children around the world. Cherry Grove Baptist is located at 9833 Swamp Fox Hwy. West in Cerro Gordo.
Donors select an age range and sex of child to give to, then pack boxes with items likely to be enjoyed by that recipient. Instructions at samaritanspurse.org tell how to pack a shoebox and specify items not to include.
The site describes volunteer and online giving options as well. Donors are asked to provide $9 to help with the costs of transportation.
National Collection Week “is the first step on the journey to the child for each gift, so we want to make sure each one makes it safely,” Faulk said.
Collection hours are Monday 4-6 p.m., Tuesday 10 a.m.-noon, Wednesday 4-6 p.m., Thursday 2-4 p.m., Friday 4:30-6:30 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-noon and Sunday 12:30-2:30 p.m. For more information, call Faulk at 910-653-3676 or 910-918-3927.
