Event Details

Prepare to be dazzled on Friday, October 25 at 5 p.m. as Teen Science Café Whiteville presents a magical demonstration of Chemistry.

Keeping Halloween in mind, Gary Nealy and Cliff Young from Southeastern Community College will demonstrate and share ‘tricks’ that may include:  color-changing solutions, smoke production, light pyrotechnics and other spooky special effects! Is it chemical science, or is it magic? Join us at NCMNS at Whiteville at 5:00pm to find out!!!

A native of Columbus County, Gary Nealy  has served as Chemistry Instructor for Southeastern Community College (SCC) for over 20 years.  His current interest is in the incorporation of “green chemistry” into teaching laboratories along with the creation of safer and environmentally friendlier chemistry experiments for students.

Nealy’s ‘partner in crime’, Clifton Young, is a life-long resident of Bladen County (Council, NC). He graduated from East Bladen High School, and attended Southeastern Community College as well as the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. While studying at Southeastern Community College, Mr. Gary Nealy piqued his interest in Chemistry. Cliff has been employed as the Chemistry and Anatomy and Physiology Laboratory Technician at SCC for 16 years. Cliff enjoys working with Mr. Nealy on his green chemistry initiative as well as making science fun for all ages. He currently resides on a farm that has been in his family since 1923.
