Reuben Brown House lunch is April 11 The Reuben Brown House Preservation Society will hold its third annual Brown House Lunch on Thursday, April 11, at Vineland Station in downtown Whiteville. In addition, a modern collection of acrylic art pouring by Jennifer Yoder will be on display. The lunch is the only fundraiser for RBHPS, with proceeds going to support its many projects. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Guests may dine in or pick up take-out plates curbside on East Main Street A $15 ticket includes homemade chicken salad, pasta salad, a pimiento cheese sandwich, fresh fruit kabobs, brownies and tea or water. Members prepare the food and will be on hand serving.
For tickets or more information, contact any RBHPS member or call 642-7367. RBHPS is a countywide, all-volunteer IRS approved non-profit organization. In addition to sponsoring the Annual A.R. Ammons Poetry Contest involving approximately 1,000 Columbus County school children each year, the organization provides other literary programs throughout the year. It also encourages the preservation and usage of historic buildings and sites throughout Columbus County.
This includes maintaining the historic 1840s home of Whiteville’s first schoolmaster and by sponsoring the Columbus County Historic Landmark Program. RBHPS also offers an exhibit at the Reuben Brown House annually as part of the NC Pecan Harvest Festival Home Tour and sponsors other one-time projects and events.
