Event Details

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences at Whiteville welcomes author and illustrator Travis Corpening for an interactive reading of his new book “The Adventures of Lucas and Alyci” on Saturday, April 20 from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. This book helps expose young students to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) concepts and careers through props and questions in a new and exciting way. Students are inspired to see that their ideas are important and encouraged to think of creative solutions to engineering challenges. No registration is required for this free program.

Corpening has a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and has worked towards his Ph.D. in educational management. He is also a speaker who specializes in increasing overall minority male achievement, particularly in the areas of STEM.  Among his achievements are being named UNCW’s 2016 Young Alumni of the Year and being named to the Wilmington Star-News’ 2012 People to Watch List.  He has mentored and assisted youth from early childhood through college and has a great passion for helping young people of all ages succeed.

Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. For more information, please contact the Museum at 910.914.4185 orwhiteville@naturalsciences.org.
