Fire destroys two buildings in South Whiteville

Firefighters rush to drench flames as they broke through the roof of an abandoned structure in South Whiteville. Firefighters had to retreat from the interior of the building as the flames grew.

Traffic along U.S. 701 South at Whiteville was slowed this afternoon due to an ongoing structure fire.

Brunswick firefighters were assisted by Whiteville, Welches Creek, Williams Township and North Brunswick, along with the N.C. Forest Service and the Whiteville Rescue Unit. Two structures were destroyed, and firefighters were pulled
