Fraud, drug charges leveled

A Whiteville woman was arrested April 14 on charges she returned a stolen lawnmower to Walmart – then faced an additional charge when she got to jail.

Warrants show Angel Elizabeth Strickland, 34, of 44 A.B. Godwin Dr., Whiteville, was arrested after allegedly stealing a $138 mower from Walmart in Whiteville, then returning the mower for a refund on April 10. She was arrested on a warrant taken out by Lt. Andre Jackson of the Whiteville Police.

While she was being processed at the county jail, deputies discovered that she had a small quantity of Alprazolam and amphetamine on her person, resulting in an additional charge of possession of controlled substances on jail property.

Strickland was held under a secured bond.
