The 35th annual Columbus County Fireworks celebration will be held Friday, July 1 at the South Columbus High School Civitan Field, 40 Stallion Dr., Tabor City. Gates open at 6;30 p.m. and entertainment at 7 p.m. Hot dogs, soft drinks and water will be sold by the Chamber. Glow necklaces and bracelets will also be sold. Fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m. Organized by the Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce. No coolers, no pets, no unauthorized vendors and no alcoholic beverages allowed.

An outdoor concert of traditional patriotic music will be performed by the Southeastern Oratorio Society and the Columbus Community Band, beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 3, at Lake Waccamaw. The free concert will be held on the south-facing hillside on the property of Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina near Dale’s Seafood and will last approximately one hour. Jamie Faulk will be directing the Southeastern Oratorio Society, in this special 50th year anniversary concert, wth Michael Beck directing the Columbus County Band. This concert will be dedicated to the memory of Jack Council, a charter member of the Southeastern Oratorio Society. Audience members can bring a blanket or lawn chair, and there will be a food truck on site. No bathroom facilities will be available. Pets must be on a leash and controlled. Dogs that bark excessively should not be present.

Movies on Madison. Returning June 17. Your favorite summer movie series, Movies on Madison, is back! Visit the museum for a family movie night plus science activities. Bring your chairs or blankets and get ready to have some fun! Upcoming films include: “Bee Movie” on June 17; “Finding Nemo” on July 15; “Raya and the Last Dragon” on Aug. 19 and “Moana” on Sept. 16. The museum’s lawn will be open at 8 p.m. for nature activities and the feature presentation will begin at 8:30 p.m. Movies on Madison are free and no registration is required. Refreshments will be available for sale onsite. The N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences is located at 415 S. Madison St. in Whiteville. Call 910-788-5100 for more information.

The first two days of class, July 18 and 19, will consist of face-to-face instruction from DMV instructor, Mark Creech. A test will be given on the third day of class, July 20. The class will be held in the T building at SCC, room 120. Classes will be held from 8:30-3 p.m. each day.
