This year’s annual fitness events at Lake Waccamaw over Labor Day weekend will highlight three inter-related areas of health: physical, mental and spiritual. It’s not too early to start physical preparation for your chosen Personal Endurance Challenge by training several times a week.
Members of the Take the Lake planning committee compiled a list of some of the low cost or free exercise venues where adults and children can prepare for the Labor Day weekend of walk/run, bike, paddle and swim challenges.

Additionally, indoor walking is available at Whiteville Recreation Center Gymnasium, 255 Rec Center Drive.
Exercise equipment for ages 60 and older is available Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm and Friday, 8:00 am – 1:30 pm at the following locations:

The two eagerly-awaited YMCA pools are now open to the public and offering Swim For Life lessons. The address of the Fair Bluff pool is 297 Elm St., and the phone number is 649-6156.
The Whiteville pool is at 2395 J.B. White Hwy. N., and the phone number is 640-3845. Summer hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at both pools. Day passes are available as well as season passes.
