Mobile home destroyed in fire

A debris fire on Berry Street in Fair Bluff Friday spread to an unoccupied mobile home shortly after noon.

Firefighters from Fair Bluff, Cerro Gordo, and Evergreen battled the blaze for around an hour. The fire began when an area resident set fire to a pile of trash. High winds carried the flames through a wide grassy area, igniting the mobile home.

The fire was stopped at a ditch on Orange Street before it could spread to a neighboring wooded area.

The fire marshal’s office is investigating.
Grass and brush fires popped up in several areas Friday due to drying conditions and high winds.
