Rogers is new Lake commissioner

Gray Rogers  will serve out the unexpired term of Lake Waccamaw Town Commissioner Jimmy Stanley, who died last month.

Rogers ran a vigorous but unsuccessful write-in campaign for Stanley’s seat in the last election. He gathered around 74 votes.

Commissioner Kevin Butler made a motion to appoint Glenn Ray to the post. The motion died for lack of a second.

A number of Ray supporters attended the board meeting, and presented a petition with 124 signatures asking that Ray be appointed to the post.

Rogers was appointed to the post on a two to one vote, with Butler casting the sole nay vote.
