As expected, the Whiteville City Schools Board of Education formally approved Jarret “JP” Price as the head football coach of Whiteville High School Monday evening. Superintendent Kenny Garland recommended Price as the selected candidate based on an extensive interview process conducted by the system. The WCS Board of Education voted unanimously in favor of Price’s hiring. Coach Price will assume his role as Physical Education/Weightlifting teacher and coach at the school on April 30.

Superintendent Garland said, “We are excited to have Coach Price become the leader of the Wolfpack football program. He certainty knows how to succeed at a high level as demonstrated by the number of regional and state championships attained during his tenure as an offensive coordinator.”

The Whiteville head football position opened when Luke Little resigned to take the head football coaching job at Morganton Freedom High School in early March. Approximately 40 applications were received for the position. Eight applicants were selected for interviews. Superintendent Garland indicated all the interviewed applicants were high quality individuals, but the “passion and plan” exhibited by Price were key to his selection.

Price graduated from South Columbus High School in 2004. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Social Studies from UNC-Pembroke in 2008. Price is also certified as a Physical Education teacher.

Jarret Price served as a volunteer assistant, coaching quarterbacks at South Columbus in 2007 and 2008. He worked in the highly successful Wallace Rose Hill football program from 2009 through 2016 as the Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator. The Bulldogs won five NCHSAA football championships during his tenure there. His offense scored 40-plus points 70 times in nine seasons. This past season, Price served as the Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator at St. James High School in Murrell’s Inlet, SC. St. James, winless in 2016, won twice in 2017 and more than doubled its scoring average.

Price served as the Wallace Rose Hill head baseball coach in 2015 and 2016. He was named the 2016 Duplin County Baseball Coach of the Year. Price was also selected as the 2015-2016 Wallace Rose Hill High School Teacher of the Year.

Jarret Price is the son of former South Columbus and Wallace-Rose Hill and current St. James head football coach Joey Price. He is married to Kaycee Little Price. They have two sons, ages seven and two, and a five-year old daughter.
