‘Indecent, disgraceful and intolerable’ – Court records detail fight to improve safety at troubled apartments

Officers from Whiteville Police Department and nuisance abatement agents from N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement walk to tell Sandy Ridge residents Oct. 29 about a temporary restraining order that a judge issued hours earlier banning visitors at the apartment complex in Whiteville.

After a shooting earlier this year, a resident of Sandy Ridge Apartments spent hours scrubbing off blood that was splattered from the front to the back of the apartment. 

“It smelled like a hog processing plant,” said the resident in a sworn affidavit filed at the Columbus County Courthouse.
