Ptm. Claude Hayes of the County Police and Faye Pfenning were taking a boat ride near the Boardman bridge when they spotted a tarpaper bulk in a slough. Underneath the felt paper were 66 gallons of moonshine whiskey, which Ptm. Hayes confiscated and brought to the Columbus County Law Enforcment Center for destruction. The whiskey stash created a crowded boat ride back to the landing, but it was made without accident. Ptm. Hayes estimated the illegal sale value of the whiskey at around $1,200.
