An open house for the Georgia Pacific plant drew more than 1,500 guests when the most modern of the company’s plants was dedicated between Whiteville and Chadbourn. H.S. Mersereau (right) welcomed the participants and acted as master of ceremonies. Mersereau, who was vice president of GP’s Southern Division, announced that a particleboard plant would be built at the same site and utilize green sawdust from logs sawed there, further utilizing the complete tree.
