West Columbus basketball players Leigh Waddell and Treka McMillian played for the East squad in the women’s East-West All-Star game in Greensboro. McMillian had four points and four rebounds. Waddell had four points and a steal.

The West won the game 78-54 behind 32 points by the USA Today’s Player of the Year Andrea Stinson.

July 30, 1987
Whiteville’s Heath Hewett completed six of nine passes for 75 yards playing for the East team in the NCCA East-West All-Star football game. Hewett’s completions included a 10-yard scoring strike. The West won the game 28-21.


Damien Hall

July 28, 1993
Whiteville High School’s Damien Hall caught a 10-yard touchdown pass that proved to be the deciding points in the East’s 10-7 win over the West in the North Carolina Coaches Association East-West All-Star Football game played in Greensboro.

Hall became the first Columbus County player to score a touchdown in the 45-year history of the contest. Hall also had a nine-yard reception in the second half of the game.
