A Sunday incident resulted in the arrest of a man who allegedly did thousands of dollars in damage to his neighbor’s cornfield.
According to Columbus County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Michele Tatum, a Chevy Trailblazer driven by Dakota Ray Maness did “doughnuts” – spinning the vehicle in tight circles – in the 2900 block of Walter Todd Road in Clarendon.
The incident, reported at 11:27 a.m. Sunday, resulted in an estimated $4,000 worth of damage to the cornfield, according to the CCSO incident report.
Tatum said the cornfield belongs to Brent Watts, who is a Columbus County commissioner.
CCSO arrested Maness, 24, of the 2800 block of Walter Todd Road, Clarendon, charging him with one count of injury to trees/crops/land. Maness posted a $5,000 secured bond the same day.
