Murder victim was Clarkton man

A Saturday night slaying near Lake Waccamaw killed a Clarkton man.

Bobby Lee Sessoms, 44, of Clarkton, was shot multiple times at the home of Steven Craig Long, according to Michelle Tatum of the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies were called to the scene at 7:30 p.m., and found Sessoms dead inside the home.

An autopsy is being performed on Sessoms today at the Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh. His address was listed as Shannon Drive, Clarkton, Tatum said.

Steven Craig Long, 47, of Ben Jones Road, Lake Waccamaw was arrested at the scene for the murder of Sessoms, Tatum said.  Long is being held at Columbus County Detention Center, currently without bond.  Long is scheduled for a first court appearance today.

A motive for the slaying was not immediately released.

“This continues to be an ongoing investigation,” Tatum said. Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to contact the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division at 910-640-6629.
