Buckhead teen in ICU after motorcycle crash

Posted on: 12.5.2017 at 04:41 p.m.

A Buckhead 17-year-old is in the New Hanover Regional Intensive Care Unit after a motorcycle crash Sunday.

Trooper Kevin Connor of the N.C. Highway Patrol said Jared Michael Lewis, 17, and another teen were traveling west on the white line or the shoulder of N.C. 214 at Heyer Street in Bolton  when the crash occurred.

A motorist traveling east on N.C. 214 waited for Lewis’ companion to pass, but failed to yield for Lewis, turning in front of his dirt bike.

“It’s hard to tell exactly where the crash occurred because there were no skid marks,” Connor said.

Lewis was airlifted to New Hanover with serious injuries. The motorist was charged with a moving violation.
