Green Acres chase leads to arrest, no bond

A chase in the Green Acres community led to an arrest Thursday, and no bond for the suspect.

Brian David Riggins, Jr., 25, was jailed under no bond following the incident, according to the sheriff’s office. Riggins was changed with possessing a stolen .40 caliber handgun while a felon, possession of a stolen vehicle, multiple traffic violations, maintaining a vehicle for drug purposes, an open container of alcohol in the passenger area, and possession of narcotics.

Michelle Tatum of the sheriff’s office said officers were near the Green Acres community looking for a stolen Chevrolet Impala taken from South Carolina. Officers spotted a vehicle matching the description of the car, and initiated a traffic stop. Riggins fled, eventually crashing on James Street in Tabor City. Riggins jumped from the vehicle with the handgun, but after a brief foot chase, he was taken into custody at a nearby residence.

No injuries were reported.
