Huge root ball exposed after storm

Tom Hammonds of Chadbourn photographed this huge – and interesting – rootball of a downed tree at Chadbourn following Monday night’s windstorm here. Several mountain and Piedmont counties in the state have declared states of emergency due to heavy damage, including tornadoes, from the storm.
