Inmate recaptured in Whiteville

A prison escapee who left his job at the Brunswick camp was picked up early Thursday morning by deputies and Department of Corrections officers.

Ricky Robinson, 59, walked away from Columbus Correctional in Brunswick on Tuesday.

Robinson, a minimum custody inmate, is incarcerated at Tabor City, but his work assignment was janitorial work.

Robinson will face charges for his escape, according to prison spokesman Jerry Higgins. He is currently serving a sentence as a habitual felon. He was scheduled for release in June 2021. Robinson has a criminal record stretching back to 1977, including assault, communicating threats, and larceny.
