Man avoids injury in Whiteville shooting

Posted on: 11.27.2017 at 10:58 a.m.

A Whiteville man narrowly escaped injury after someone opened fire on his vehicle at the Sawmill Apartments Sunday.

Police Chief Jeff Rosier said officers were dispatched to the complex on Hay Street at 10:49 p.m. after a 911 call about shots fired. Officers noticed several vehicles with bullet holes, and made contact with Edward Shipman of Virgil Street.

Shipman said he was visiting a friend at the complex when he observed a vehicle pass by, and one occupant got out and opened fire on his car.

Shipman was not injured, police said, but his vehicle “sustained severe damage”.

Police are investigating the incident as case of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call 642.5111.
