Pair charged in thousand-dollar Walmart theft

A man and woman were arrested March 7 after allegedly stealing more than $1,000 in merchandise from the Whiteville Walmart.

Warrants show that William Kyle Harwood, 33, and Diana Smith Hester, 36, both of 563 Mrs. Tate’s Road, Whiteville, were charged with one count each of felony larceny. They were placed under $2,000 secured bond each.

According to the warrants, the two took Duracell batteries, cakes, Goody’s Powders, foot powder, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, knives, tools, gloves, sheets, a Reese towing hitch, flashlight, key chain, tool bag, a storage box, snacks, and multiple cleaning products from the store Jan. 6. The property had a total value of $1,025.43.

Whiteville Police investigated the case.
