As filings closed Friday for local town and city races, an incumbent decided to try for one more term on Whiteville City council.
Vickie Pait had declared she would not run for re-election this year, and as late as last week said she was looking forward to spending more time with her family and work. On Friday, however, Pait filed to run for her third term on the board in District One.
With Pait, four candidates will be on the ballot for the two seats open in District One this year: incumbent Tim Blackmon, Calvin Norton and Justin Smith.
In the Whiteville District Two race, incumbent Harold Troy is being challenged by Tim Collier. The former parks and rec director for the city, Collier was dismissed by the city in 2015, then allowed to resign. He currently works for the town of Chadbourn’s parks department.
