A strong front knocked down numerous trees, some of them large, across the county Monday night. Power was out in a number of areas, including several sections of Whiteville. At 5 a.m., Duke Energy reported more than 1,300 were without power in Whiteville. There were more outages in and around Chadbourn.
One motorist was hurt when their car came in contact with a tree across Arn Ward Road south of Brunswick.
The county 911 center had to use handheld units to communicate with fire, rescue and police.
