Alfred Whitfield Wells, 73, passed away peacefully at home Sunday, May 15, 2022.
He was born April 30, 1949, in New Hanover County, the son of the late Clyde Whitfield Wells and Ethel Smith Wells. He was also predeceased by a brother, Doug Wells; and a sister, Shelia Wells.
Alfred served honorably in the U.S.Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard.
He worked at the Riegelwood paper mill and as a truck driver retiring from the Hess Oil Corporation. Alfred grew up on the family farm in Delco. He enjoyed farming since birth and loved being around the farming industry.
The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Red Hill Pentecostal Church, 1383 Byrdville-Freeman Rd. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 19, in the Wells Family Cemetery, 3389 Delco Prosper Rd. with Rev. Calvin Malpass officiating. Harrell’s Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Burgaw is serving the family.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Wells; a son, John Whitfield Wells of S.D.; two stepsons, Brian Fernandez and Albert Fernandez and wife, Roni; three step-grandchildren; two sisters, Barbara Morgan and husband, Monty, of Anderson, S.C. and Loretta Cooke and husband, Buddy, of Delco; three nephews, David Johnson, Adam Johnson and Billy Clark and niece, Alyssa Johnson.
