Allison Rebecca Burns, 34, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer Sunday, July 17, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Iva and Hiram Gillikin; and paternal grandparents, Maude and John Burns.
Allison was a member of First Baptist Church in Morehead City.
Allison began working at AB Surf Shop while she was in high school at the age of 15. During her junior year at N.C. State University, where she was majoring in textile and apparel management, she started working for AB Surf Shop as a manager and buyer. After she graduated from college, she was employed full-time with AB Surf Shop until she started working for Burns & Wilcox in May 2011, as a commercial lines underwriter.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 21 at First Baptist Church Family Life Center in Morehead City. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 22 at First Baptist Church in Morehead City with Revs. Nate Leonard and Charles Allard officiating. A graveside service will follow at a later date in Whiteville. Munden Funeral Home & Crematory, 2112 Arendell Street, is handling the arrangements.
She is survived by her parents, William “Willie” and Linda Gillikin Burns of Morehead City; one brother, Brantley Burns of Shallotte; her special friend, Mike Thomas of Morehead City; and her special and loyal lab, Ella “Ellie Bellie.”
The family gives out a special thank you to all of the doctors and nurses at UNC Health Care, as well as Duke University Medical Center. Also, a special thank you to Allison’s doctor, Dr. Katrina Conrad of Morehead City.
