Arthur Milton Godwin Jr., 79, died Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center, Whiteville. Born Oct. 26, 1936 in Columbus County, he was the son of the late Arthur Milton Godwin Sr. and Helen Duncan Godwin and the widower of Meriam Soles Godwin. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Joe Godwin, Auty Godwin, J.W. Godwin, Bobby Godwin; and six sisters, Essie Cartrette, Alene McPherson, Pauline Blackman, Ruby Colton, Sadie Chandler, and Myrtle Todd.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 27 at Beaverdam Original Freewill Baptist Church in Chadbourn. Final rites will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 28 at the church. Burial will be in McPherson Cemetery. Inman Ward Funeral Home of Tabor City is handling the arrangements.
He is survived by two daughters, Peggy Webber and Cynthia Godwin, both of Clarendon; two sons, Arthur Milton “Buddy” Godwin III and Ricky Godwin, both of Clarendon; one brother, Junior Godwin of Clarendon; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
