Betty Sue Russell Monds, 86, died Thursday, May 12, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born Oct. 17, 1935, in Bridgeport, Conn., to the late Jack and Iris Connelly Russell. She was the widow of Angus Hood Monds.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Nicky Russell.
Betty was a member of Whiteville First Presbyterian Church. She attended Highsmith-Rainey School of nursing and was a nurse at Whiteville Apparel for 22 years. “MuMu” was the happiest when she was surrounded by her family.
Her visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 16 at Peacock Funeral Home in Whiteville. Her funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 17 at Clarkton Presbyterian Church with Rev. Barrett Ingram officiating. Burial will be in the Whiteville Memorial Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dan Ward, Alston Hatch, Bryan Wessell, Kris Loburk, Tyler Loburk, Sean Morris, Joey Alexander and Russell Ammons.
She is survived by one son, Robert Monds and his wife, Hannah, of Kingsport, Tenn.; two daughters, Karen Hatch and her husband, Palmer, of Fuquay-Varina and Julie Ward and her husband, Dan, of Clarkton; six grandchildren, Jessica Loburk, Victoria Wessell, Alston Hatch, Emily Morris, Abby Ward and Elizabeth Monds; and six great-grandchildren, Tyler Loburk, Jozie Wessell, Angus Wessell, Will Hatch, Hallie Hatch and Blakely Morris.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Team Jozie, 7101 Creedmore Rd., Suite 130, Raleigh, N.C. 27613.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Donna Standley for being the “guardian angel” during this time.
